What is responsive web design?

A responsive website is a site that adapts to the size of the screen on the device it is viewed on. Those of us old enough to remember mobile phones when the internet was first available on them will remember how difficult it was to view the websites. Trying to display a site that looked ok on a 19″ monitor on a mobile, just looked way too small on a mobile.

Fast forward a few years and websites were developed as two different sites. One for normal PC monitors and one for mobile. This went some way to curing the problem but as more devices such as tablets where introduced the problems were still there.

These days we now have responsive web design. This method allows the website to display correctly no matter what screen size the viewing device has.

With over 63 million mobile devices in use in the UK alone, if your site is not responsive and doesn’t display well when viewed on a phone or tablet – You could be missing out on a very large number of potential customers.

Research shows that a high percentage of mobile users will simply click away from a site that does not display well.
